If the faucet is leaking around the center of the stem it is most likely due to the packing on the stem. If the packing on the stem is worn it will allow the water to leak around the center of the stem. This issue can be solved by replacing the stem assembly. Arrowhead Brass offers two different versions of the stem. The SP version of the stems are for faucets that where put in before 1999. In order to identify which stem it is that you need you will need to know the age of the faucet, and the total length. For the total length you will need to measure the stem from where the handle attaches to the opposite end. When measuring the stem make sure that the end is pushed into the stem. The stems come in 2 inch increments. The last digit in the part numbers represent wall thickness, not total length. You will need to add 4 to the last digit of the part number for the total length. For example the PK2006 is for a 6 inch wall thickness, and the total length is 10 inches.
